Black History Month

Modern music does not exist without the creativity and leadership of Black artists.

Hip hop, R&B, soul, funk, G Funk, and pop have each been transformed by innovation that began in Black communities and expanded globally. The sounds, rhythms, vocal styles, production techniques, and cultural movements born from that creativity continue to define what we hear today.

For Black History Month, Press Play Curation built a 2+ hour master playlist designed to honor that influence through intentional sequencing and energy design.

This is not a shuffled collection of popular songs. It is structured to reflect evolution.

The journey begins with West Coast rhythm and grounded swagger. 2Pac, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg. The minimal bounce and G Funk textures that shaped an era.

From there, the playlist moves into neo soul and smooth R&B foundations. Erykah Badu. Whitney Houston. TLC. These artists expanded melody, emotion, and storytelling within popular music.

The Golden Era pocket follows. A Tribe Called Quest. The Roots. De La Soul. Lauryn Hill. This period fused lyricism, jazz influence, and cultural commentary in ways that still inspire today’s artists.

The playlist closes with Redbone by Childish Gambino, a modern funk slow burn that feels reflective, forward looking, and deeply connected to lineage.
